Rit Sun Guard is the first sun protection for skin that you wash into your clothing! Simply add it to the wash cycle, rinse and dry as usual. It won´t change the color or comfort of clothing. One treatment is good for more than 20 additional washings. The typical t-shirt provides an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 5, add in Sun Guard and it soars to an UPF of 30! UPF factor describes the capability of fabric to prevent UV rays from reaching the skin and is the relative equivalent of a SPF rating for sunscreen. Rit Sun Guard works even if your shirt is wet (for those into water sports). It´s safe for the whole family. Rit Sun Guard has been recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation assuring the consumer that this product has met rigorous criteria set up by the Foundation´s Photobiology Committee and achieves the UPF rating as indicated. Keep powder box out of reach of children. We have packaged this item in 6 packs. Each box provides enough protectant for one laundry cycle.

I love this product. My family and I are very fair skinned and skin cancer runs in the family. I use this product in spring and summer on all of the clothes. It does not bother even a young childs sensitive skin.

I guess the product is good, who can say for sure I never really burned thru my shirts before Sun Guard usage but I guess it can’t hurt. If you have a front load washer you will need to disolve the product first in hot water then start you washer without the clothes let some water fill then hit “add a garment” then add the disolved Sun Guard (In hot water) then close the door and start the washer again let it continue to fill and mix then “add a garment” again and add clothes and extend the soil/wash time so the washer stays in the wash cycle for at least 15 minutes. Not really that hard once you do it a couple times. I had to think about this for a few minutes to get a game plan, I hope this helps some of you. Good luck

I read about this in the newspaper, and while I’ve not conducted independent tests, I have looked up several scientific studies that seem to confirm this really works. It’s easy to use (just add to wash cycle, following directions), supposedly lasts for up to 20 washes with just one packet. That means just one laundry load gets us through most of the season.

Rit Sun Guard Laundry Treatment UV Protectant – six 1 oz packets
I am fair skinned but have always enjoyed the sun (too much when younger). Age and various medications as well as skin cancer warnings made me purchase this product 7/06 in preparation for a trip to the ocean in July. I washed all my summer clothes with it. It does not change the fabric, stain it, or anything. I found it it to be most effective and am back this year for another batch. I highly recommend this product. Purchase all 6 packets. You will use them and even give them to friends and family.

This is really a cost effective way to protect your skin from the sun. Experts say to wear sunscreen all over, including under your clothes, but I prefer using Sun Guard instead. And unlike the majority of sunscreens, Sun Guard protects against UVA as well as UVB rays. The only thing I wonder about is whether or not the product adheres to ALL of the clothes in the wash, so to be safe I just wash smaller loads. Overall this product is a godsend.

I did not know that this product existed until recently. I believe that it is an excellent idea to wash all clothing with Sun Guard. The sun can damage skin even through clothing. Since I have had a pre-cancerous area on my skin, this is going to be a product that I use year-round.

I come from a family of caucasians, many of us with skin cancer as early as our twenties.
After that family history, we ALL now use this! What a top of the line product! It does not change the texture of the clothing or anything, just makes it safer! I even use it on my baby’s clothes and she has no reaction!
I HIGHLY suggest this product for everyone – why not add something to your laundry that could save your life?

An easy to use sun protection for your clothes, simply add to detergent when you wash your garments and it adds sun protection to the fabric. Of course I cannot scientifically test the product but my UV-detector did show improvement

Sun Guard didn’t change the look or texture of our clothes at all. I was thrilled that our t-shirts looked and felt exactly the same afterwards. However, it’s been too soon to tell how well the sun protection works and if it really lasts through 20 washings.
